Minor grump, but I've been playing a lot of 7 Wonders Duel on BGA, and there's a few games where I've encountered a few high ELO (400+) players that insists that I should be learning to play the game right and get annoyed when I take a little time to think over my options. It's actually putting me off playing the game in BGA at all

@zhoekstra This type of toxic gameplay was what drove me away from Brettspielwelt decades ago. I'm sorry it's happening at BGA now.

This is a problem with adding rewards (ELO) with lasting impact to what was designed as temporal play; your delay slows down their ability to earn more rewards and their hyperfocus on the reward turns them into toxic jerks.

Can you choose to play Unranked?

@scottnicholson Nope, all players get lumped into a single big pool. Competitiveness + anonymity seems to bring out the worst in some people
@zhoekstra I believe there is a way to select skill level for opponents. I used to do it with Through The Ages.

@Sagrilarus I've got that enabled (265 on 7WD right now), so I'm matching with opponents within ~100 elo of me. It's more that as I get higher ELO, there's very clearly a band of players who are, frankly, rude and petty.

I'm not a 100 ELO person being told I should learn the game. I clearly know how to play, so it's meant as an insult

@zhoekstra

Then start your own games and when they get pissy tell them if they don't like it they can leave. Option 2 is to type the phrase "no Inglese" into the text and ignore them. Nobody speaks Italian on BGA.
