Anyone else still isolating/shielding and feeling kinda miserable this Christmas? It’s basically my 4th isolated one since I began isolating before the pandemic became official in the West. It’s so lonely - not because I’m alone - but because it feels like the rest of the world have happily moved on. Digital comfort anyone? #CovidIsNotOver #covid #christmas #NEISvoid
@broadwaybabyto Just finally tested negative for the second day yesterday, so I went out and saw some Christmas lights. Got sick they day of my company's holiday party and had to drive home (nine hours). Yesterday was the first holiday thing since the 9th.
@equinox_deschanel glad you’re finally negative and I hope you’re feeling much better.
@broadwaybabyto Some choose to live like it's 2019, heedless. Some choose to have *much* lower risk appetites, and haven't given it to the grandchildren (yet, at least). Choices, odds, consequences.
@wndlb that’s true. It’s lonely today but at least I won’t have to deal with the nasty consequences. I already have severe post viral illness - no desire to make it worse.
@broadwaybabyto Definitely. We're still living in March 2020 in our household. But we have better masks and vaccines but still are very cautious around people we know who aren't taking pandemic precautions (..i.e.. everyone). It's definitely lonely. Not sure how to get out of this hole.
@Julie it’s so hard. I’m on my own which is very lonely but at the same time I’m sometimes glad I don’t have to worry about young children when no one else seems to care. Still makes the holidays difficult. Glad you’re staying safe!

@broadwaybabyto

My hubby, kids, and I are still isolating. I miss my parents who I haven't seen in >3 yrs, but despite my best efforts to educate them, they've stopped being cautious, and so even if we risked a flight to visit them, we wouldn't feel safe staying with them.

Our friends aren't cautious either, so it's just us, on our own.

I'm very grateful for the support I find on Mastodon from people who still care about protecting others.

Sending you warmest wishes for the holiday season!

@Empathy1st thank you for the kind wishes! Haven’t seen my family in 3 years either - my dad has become really cautious again so I’m hoping maybe it’ll be safe to visit in January. For now it’s just me, myself and I! Lol. Have a great holiday.
@broadwaybabyto
Been "isolating" since February 20. Sometimes stir crazy. But then just read up on what covid's doing to everyone is enough to put those thoughts back in their box. FFP2 outside home & FFP3 or elastomeric indoors. CO2 monitors+ HEPA air filtration + open windows + masks when there are visitors. Eaten outside a few times but that's about it. Here's a great reminder to stay safe.

Pretty sobering.

Been isolating since it began. Fortunately, it fits my lifestyle. 😏

I go the whole 9 yards, though. I wear a mask in the pharmacy drive-thru and when I get a delivery. Everything I bring into the house gets bathed in alcohol.

I'm autoimmune deficient, so I was already germ conscious. I could give Howard Hughes...and Sheldon...lessons. 🥴

@broadwaybabyto We're still mostly isolating. When we do need to go places, we use FFP2 masks or better. Christmas is just our little nuclear family. We're happy together but it does feel lonely realizing that pretty much nobody in the world cares about people with fragile health anymore.

@broadwaybabyto I am sitting at home with two sick kids (no covid, just all the "other" viruses).

So, yeah, we are having a blast Christmas this year 🥲

But, we will make up for it hopefully later this week / this winter holiday (which will last 2 weeks). ✌

For now, Merry Christmas to all. I really wish everyone can have a great X-mas feast inside or outside their home. 🎄

@broadwaybabyto My spouse and I are still shielding and we don't know anyone else in real life who's still covid cautious.

On previous christmases we could still skype with our parents-in-law while having Christmas dinner. This year however they chose to have a big multi-day vacation together with a lot of other family members and friends. They don't understand us at all.

So yes, this has been the hardest year where literally everyone else has moved on.

Best wishes to everyone ❤️

@zerocovid @broadwaybabyto What zerocovid said (I'm the spouse, lol).

Two years ago we had a skype dinner with my parents with fun quizzes. Last year we had a short skype dinner, without anything extra because they called it "so bothersome and too much trouble". This year they cancelled and implied that they don't want any online celebrations anymore. So it's just us two this year and maybe forever. 🤷‍♀️

Lots of digital comfort hugs and best wishes to you and the other commenters 💚

@broadwaybabyto
Yeah, I'm mostly miserable because I just can't understand why the family is so keen on throwing their health away and shortening their AND their kids lifespan.
(personally, I have a large family and am glad to escape the terror of being questioned about my reproductive plans, having to endure the my house - my car - my vacations spiel of numerous cousins and the general slander, bullying and passive-agressive talks)
@broadwaybabyto Still isolating and have high risk lungs so traveling to visit family in far away lands was not an option. Hard to watch the grandkids grow up via FaceTime.
@broadwaybabyto - yea, it's hard. I'm fortunate to live with 2 close friends who also get it, so we celebrate together and that's a big comfort. But I miss seeing my family who are just not taking enough precautions for me to feel comfy visiting during winter when we can't be outside. So I zoom in for parts of the gatherings and it's ... not as good, but something. It's hard not being able to convince them how serious this still is. I worry for them, too.
@broadwaybabyto
Same.
I get some distanced social contact outdoors.
@broadwaybabyto It looks like the majority of humans have moved on like covid doesn’t exist. My husband and I still mask everywhere. Don’t do indoor dining ( take out or eat at home) and no traveling. We find joy in reading, Netflix, meals with candle light, video chatting with family and avoiding covid. We also found an app to listen to radio stations all over the world. It is fun and free. Check Radio Garden . #CovidIsNotOver #radio
