1 dode en 29 zwaargewonden waarvan 26 kinderen door vuurwerk.

Het is compleet krankzinnig dat het niet al lang verboden is. Stel je voordat er in een paar weken tijd 26 kinderen zwaargewond raakten door een stuk speelgoed, of door wolven! Dan buitelde iedereen over elkaar heen om er zsm een eind aan te maken.

Brandwondencentra: nu al 26 kinderen zwaargewond door vuurwerk

Brandwondenartsen van de drie brandwondencentra in Nederland hebben nu al hun handen vol aan vuurwerkslachtoffers. Sinds november hebben zij al 29 zwaargewonden behandeld, blijkt uit cijfers die RTL Nieuws heeft opgevraagd. Opvallend: het gaat daarbij om 26 kinderen.

@ivereadabook @Joop I know, but there are unintended consequences to banning things. I remember seeing kids buying fireworks when I was there 20 years ago. The clerk said something, and I only caught the word gevaarlijk. We certainly do not live up to our mythology of liberty in the US, but I really liked that liberty. I certainly want to save lives, but if people get the idea that anything not banned is safe, there are consequences to that too.

Fireworks are in fact (regularly used as) weapons. We have very strict laws on 'real' weapons, and it seems we do have far less mass shootings per capita than you guys...

If people can't handle liberty, then I see no harm in taking some of that liberty away. To protect other people, animals and nature.

@ivereadabook @Joop I see that liberty as a birthright, not something that someone can take away if they don't think you can handle it.
It does seem like there should be restrictions on people with a history of violent behavior.
Mass shootings are a problem, but we have an even bigger problem with shootings with 1 or 2 victims.
I don't have perfect answers, but I'm really against granting more powers to the government.

I'm not saying we should become like North Korea (very few mass shootings there, I guess 😉), but a decent government needs to have power.

Freedom is a right until you use your freedom to harm others.
