Wow nothing gets Mastodon riled up like a feature request 😅. Fwiw I love it here! It’s objectively a better community than on Twitter or Andreessen Horowitz’s latest app. I only suggest features because I love talking about tech products and how they develop and I’d personally love to be able to communicate and share news little better on here. I know some others would too. Clearly others disagree and that’s alright, they’re users too! I think it’s fun to discuss. No Mastodon hate from me 💕
Just want to add that I know it’s easy to hate on journalists, but we are people from all walks of life. Personally, I love thinking about social products and features, that’s why I write about communication technology. I appreciate everyone’s feedback and I hope ppl understand that I’m not trying to “ruin” anything by sharing my personal opinions on features. It’s ok to disagree! I also have deep knowledge of online harassment and how it manifests 💓

@taylorlorenz I have a feeling the reason people are sensitive about your post, is that there might be somewhat of a fear that Mastodon might end up only used by people in tech disgruntled by Twitter, making it a pretty niche product forever.

And then the journalist ban happened, and now journalists are flocking to it, which is probably Mastodon’s only card so far making it a broader audience than tech.

With that background, and with your post framing the feature gap as a reason Mastodon may never be a good fit for journalists, my guess is that this is the underlying fear that is getting riled up by your post.
