So this USB-C DP Alt Mode cable only works with the USB 3.2 Type-C port on my GPD Win Max 2, with spare USB 2.0 lanes for downstream USB devices. To get anything more than that I'll have to buy an actual Thunderbolt dock, which costs at least $200 and often more.
But GPD Win Max 2 has no lack of USB ports on itself so I'll pass on the Thunderbolt dock... I'll just accept the fact that if I want to dock my laptop with one single cable, I can only ever plug in USB 2.0 devices... which is fine, because keyboards and mice are not even USB 2.0.

@PeterCxy Maybe the #SteamDeckDock is a good option, as it does USB 3.2 + DP Alternate Mode with MST & USB-C PD?

Pretty shure some more afforable #dongles offer that combo as well...

@kkarhan Well my current USB 3.2 dock supports USB 3.2 + DP as well, but the problem is that my monitor is stuck at DP 1.2, so to run 4k@60Hz over DP Alt Mode it has to take up all the SuperSpeed lanes in that port, leaving only USB 2.0 for downstream USB. Sad.
@PeterCxy maybe your monitor or the iGPU doesn't support negotiating anything beyond that?
@kkarhan my monitor is DP 1.2 maximum :) hot garbage

@PeterCxy Like the LG 31MU97?

Cuz that's a picky prick who also tends to get braindead randomly.

@kkarhan No it's a Samsung. But yes it was an extremely stupid buy.

@PeterCxy Cheap 28" UHD IPS screen?

Re: Monitors, @fuchsiii has a real bad streak...

@PeterCxy I've deployed this.dock in the past andnit basically ran with everything.

Sadly didn't support more than 1 display in #Apple #MacBookAir with M1 SoC but that's Apple's fault...
