The portraiture of Ghanaian-American artist Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe was just brought to my attention by @hairpik, whose #blackArt thread I don’t want to derail, which is why we’re here, but she deserves your attention. Please check her out!

I love this piece so much. Look! “Trinity, 2021.” The artsy link is absolutely worth a visit, because it lets you zoom way in for a closer look at all the little details. I’m so fascinated by the mixture of textures, implied and real. The thick, actually textured paint of the sky, compared to the impression of texture of her hat, for instance.

It’s a beautiful portrait. I love it.

@robotrecall @hairpik I just saw some of his work at the Portland Art Museum! They're huge and the texture of the paint feels tangible. Really amazing work.
