@oldladyplays @futurebird This has nothing to do with gatekeeping. It has everything to do with what the Fediverse actually is: the biggest communications revolution in a generation.

You say it has nothing to do with gatekeeping, but insisting on what you consider to be correct usage effectively turns Mastodon and Fediverse into shibboleths, which is one of the oldest forms of gatekeeping.
@lostpanda @oldladyplays @futurebird Actually, the reason I'm adamant is because referring to the Fediverse as "Mastodon" creates a slim waist that results in centralization.
Much like how referring to the Internet as "the web" has created a slim waist for centralization 🙂
