I believe in a livable wage for everyone. It baffles me business owners argue with me, and I’ve had many do so, that paying their staff a higher wage will destroy their business. They are always white dudes who fancy themselves clever businessmen.

Until I hit them with, “wait, are you saying you didn’t budget for employee wages that afford them the basics of life? Surely you budgeted for that, right, Jimothy? I thought you understood business?”

It’s a blow to the fragile biz man fee fees.

@godlessmom
I’ve had the good fortune of owning three businesses at different times over the last thirty years, all did well, all were/are moderately successful and have afforded me a good lifestyle.
None of my past or present success would be possible without the hard work and efforts of those I have employed, and the least I owed them was an above average wage.
Simple solution, more for them and less for me at the end of each month, after all, there’s only so much a person needs.

@bbouts when we hire, we’re going to profit share and give unlimited vacation time as well as extended medical/dental.

I can’t think of a way to have more loyal, hardworking employees than to offer them a share of the profits. They’re also going to more likely to take reasonable vacation time without us limiting it because they legitimately care about the success of the business since they have a stake in it.

@godlessmom @bbouts Sounds more like you'll be taking on minor partners. I think all businesses should be like this. Unfortunately many/most businesses only focus on profits. Exploiting workers is almost as profitable as exploiting customers. They love getting paid on both ends.

If more employers crunched the numbers they would realize that employee turnover is much more costly in the long run than paying a more than average wage.
@bbouts @Robert_Rowe @godlessmom Anyone, please link studies with a cost-benefit analysis of promoting #employeeretention versus #business models based on #employeeturnover.
This would vary by #industry. In a search, I found studies on #nursing and airline pilots.
Seems unlikely that #retail and #fastfood would care about making the jobs better for employees versus straight #automation.
