I hope everyone is physically prepared for this Winter Storm, but now it's time to mentally prepare for Canadians to tell us we don't even know what cold is.
@RickiTarr As a Virginian, I will fully admit that I don't know much about the super cold, but what I do know is that our weather is a shitshow, and unpredictable as hell
@HemlockBB @RickiTarr And any bad weather causes a panic in Virginia… Lived here 30 years hoping that people will develop common sense about bad weather, it will never happen. I would be better off wishing for a pony!
@fuzzface @HemlockBB I always feel like people start driving like idiots the minute it snows, like You Can't take your Prius out in this.
@RickiTarr @HemlockBB In Northern Virginia a common practice is "I'm driving a really big truck that has four wheel drive. It may be snowing, icy, and limited visibility but my super truck will allow me to do 75 on a road."
@fuzzface @RickiTarr @HemlockBB This is classic driver behavior All over rural america.
@noahcarver @RickiTarr @HemlockBB Trucks can be amazing vehicles. But like any tool they have to be used skillfully and intelligently. I’ve seen too many trucks in NoVa that were likely purchased because they were just HUUUGE. No evidence they have ever been used for work and the winch still has all of the factory paint in it. Waste of a good truck IMHO.
@fuzzface @RickiTarr @HemlockBB Agreed. You can absolutely tell the difference between a working truck and a truck that someone's bought because they think it's cool not only from looking at the condition of the truck but also by the actions of its driver.
@fuzzface @noahcarver @HemlockBB Yeah I've never understood having something that expensive if you aren't going to use it purposefully.
@RickiTarr @fuzzface @noahcarver One of my boyfriends and I constantly make fun of huge trucks that clearly aren't being used for anything other than to show off. Like... please just buy a prius
@RickiTarr @noahcarver @HemlockBB For some people it is all about showing off “wealth and power”. Whether or not it makes sense, or is even used, doesn’t enter into the equation. It isn’t easy, but such people deserve our pity instead the envy they are seeking.
