The one big problem with Zelenskyy quoting great American historical speeches in order to reach American hearts and minds is that our hearts are confused because our minds have never heard these speeches before because Americans don’t know our own history.

@HelloAndrew It's something Irish politicians and poets have often done in an English context, to frequently bemused listeners. We often know their history better than they do - we've had to.
@mariafarrell I seem to recall Gandhi did a bit of that too. It’s disquieting but that can be a useful thing.
@HelloAndrew oh yes, he was well known for it! I'd forgotten that. (He'd trained as a lawyer in the UK) In any case, hearing your own history from others can be a good way to get knowledge and ideas back into circulation - i.e. realising how you are seen by others who are looking for your best self.
