This conversion therapy is pushed everywhere from Texas courts to UK health panels to recently, Florida's medicaid ban for trans people. Here is the Florida's AHCA report relying on GET.
Things GET practitioners do:
- Blaming trans identity on past trauma, OCD, depression
- Stating trans identity is a fetish and should be treated as such
- Keeping blockers, HRT "just out of reach" while "we explore this other possible reason for being trans"
The goal: To get a trans person as deep into puberty so that they feel transition is impossible and "desist" - stop identifying as trans.
The fake-science anti-trans org Society for Evidence in Gender Medicine, which pushes GET heavily, pushes forcing puberty.
Genspect, which also pushes gender exploratory therapy, explicitly calls for "100% desistance," includes Our Duty in its support group network.
This group calls for 100% desistance - an end to ALL trans youth.
Trans identification will NEVER be an endpoint of GET.
This therapy has deeper ties to Christian conversion therapy and is reminiscent of Crisis Pregnancy Centers, which similarly try to delay abortion until its no longer possible.
