I've been as critical about Jed Hoyer's innate sense of caution as anyone, and also, boy am I grateful for it today because I'm not sure Cubs fans could survive Correa Chaos.
@BCB_Sara I know I had the same questions as you about why the Mets have cemented the deal by publicly commenting on it despite Correa’s health. Maybe you already found out, but I saw this today:

I've seen those quotes, and I really do not understand for the life of me why an owner being excited about a possible player would mean they undermined the well-understood fact that deals are contingent on a physical.

@daveahlman

@BCB_Sara I don’t either really, but I guess smart lawyers have figured it out and set a precedent.

I actually disagree with this -- it sounds like the type of advice overly cautious lawyers give to CYA, I would be really curious to see any examples of arbitration being impacted by owner comments, because I cannot imagine an arbiter is that transparently silly.

@daveahlman

@BCB_Sara this would be an interesting research project.

Like I can see it mattering for the purposes of say a raise for Happ, if the Ricketts were out there making comments about how important he was to the team, but I don't see why it would hurt a team's ability to make a deal contingent on a physical.

Probably hard to research but that's my hunch.
