HOT TAKE: thinking of teaching as a "performance" gets in the way of responding to students
@ilanahorn improv?

@mcdanger yeah i get that and considered it. but i think performance as a metaphor for teaching undervalues quiet listening, pausing for consideration, etc and overvalues entertainment and dynamism.

also: when a kid has a hard time, the teacher can get mad at them for ruining the smoothness of the performance.

@ilanahorn you know that math teacher who recorded himself and then projected that pretending it was live and then interacted with himself? what would've happened if a student interrupted?
@mcdanger i don't know that! but yeah, that is an example of a performance
@ilanahorn this isnt the one I was thinking of since I remember an actual lecture happening, but this is hilarious! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9NQatne0xg
