@gilad73 @Sheril Sorry to disagree. I read the book. It said that tumor cells were routinely collected from all patients without consent. At the time, it was assumed no one wanted to retain control of their cancerous tumor cells. Yes, cells were propagated in the lab, but I don’t find this comparable to Nazi experimentation. It would be more comparable to taking DNA from fingernail clippings. It only became an issue after the HeLa cells were found to be “immortal,” and monetized.
@lucyherz @Sheril I admit I didn't read the book yet. Given the context I will reconsider what I said. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
@lucyherz @gilad73 @Sheril it has to be seen in the larger context of black women being treated by the medical community as a disposable resource rather than human beings. I think it is closer to nazi-era medicine than we like to think.
@lucyherz @gilad73 @Sheril I know any time I have a medical procedure, my 'parts' are being harvested for sale to researchers and privateers. We should all have free healthcare for life in return for the free samples.
