Conscious Machines May Never Be Possible

No matter how smart it may seem, people won’t be saying “It’s conscious!” about an AI in 2023.

Conscious Machines May Never Be Possible

People won’t be saying “It’s conscious!” about an AI in 2023—no matter how smart it may seem.

Agree in principle, but I think at least 2 groups *will* say that:-
1- Those who *really* want to believe conscious AI (as per flat earth, psychic phenomenon...)
2- Big tech, frantically competing to be the first to release the Pandora's Box of HLAI.

You could also say there will at least be 2 groups that will deney that an #ai has consiousns in the future.
- Those who really want to believe that cnosciousnes is a privilege of biological machines (like flat earthler or some religios group)
- Big tech, because they want to use those systems and acknowlaging there conscios could be problematic, especially if the system had also a high inteligence getting close to a human.

To strive to attain consciousness in a machine is profoundly misguided.
In the unlikely event of success, such machines may well ask:
"What is the point of humans?"

I don't think someone will activly try to create a consciousness machine in the near future, But in an unlikely event that it emerges by pure chance some day, I don't think it will be handeld well judge by the past of humanity.

I hope it is still a long time until #ai rights activists are needed :)

@lokimidgard @marylindelgado
I'm sure there are developers in big tech already striving to attain #HLAI and thereby be a god-like creator.
If they were ever to succeed, the result would be a tormented locked-in "being", and the #AI rights activists would be the machines.
