The government have launched a public consultation on the management of deer in Ireland. The questions tell you that the solutions they see are based on hunting and commercial sale of venison. But there is space to add your own suggestions...

Public Consultation on the Management of Deer in Ireland

@raycunningham wolves and lynxes FTW!
@karlstanley @raycunningham had a great conversation about reintroducing wolves at the zoo a while back. Unfortunately never going to be an option as
(a) human activities have encroached too much on the wild habitats
(b) farmers lobby
@seanconroy @karlstanley Wolves are the dream, but lynx would be an easier sell.

@raycunningham @karlstanley would be interesting to see them reintroduced.

Must dig out the stats. There's an issue with Ireland’s overall suitable (incl historically) habitats to sustain a pack large enough to manage the deer herds. Think its ~100 wolves max due to required size of territory.

@raycunningham if lynx work in Scotland (a release date before we could here) that would make it an easier sell

I can't see FG losing a local seat due to the unwarranted panic attacks lynx would bring unless similar habitat and culture was leading the way. My opinion
