just stumbled across some truly incredible mistranslated marketing text on a knockoff roomba
the roomba knows where it is because it knows where it isn't
@gsuberland and it subtracts the diffrence to find an error, or deviation.
@gsuberland Does it also know how fast it's going? 🤔
@G33KatWork By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't.

@gsuberland I think this is from the one I own.

Actually probably no. The English is a bit too good.

Cost less than $140 new and does vacuum plus washing and the AI is fantastic so can't complain. Half a year in "maintain floors" mode and hasn't broken down as well...

@gsuberland in glasgow we'd say "ur daw's the real weapon pal..."
@gsuberland I’m not sure when or exactly how, but I’m using that last sentence as a clue in my #dnd campaign.
@gsuberland Is that bad translation, or is it a coded message from a secret order of assassins?
