I'm pretty sure WXYC was the very first place I heard a song by The Shaggs (probably 1980 or '81, when I was living in Durham for... reasons).
It broke my brain in a very particular way, and puzzling over precisely why it got under my skin the way it did was a background thought project across years to come which probably helped re-make my brain in a subtly but unmistakably different configuration.
When most people tell a story like that, it involves acid!
