I find this very inspiring:

I'll toot the show notes.

"Priya Parker is a conflict resolution strategist and author of the acclaimed book, The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters."

Her life and career inspires me, part of me wishes to be doing the kind of work she does.

My "career capital" lies in Tech though, having experience doing software and site reliability engineering at a big tech company. So where to from here? Find appropriate intersection?

Priya Parker — Remaking Gathering: Entering the Mess, Crossing the Thresholds

The conflict resolution strategist and artist of gathering. Physical or virtual, reinventing the “how” of coming together — and the “why.”

The On Being Project

"Priya Parker has become the voice of what it means to gather in this world we inhabit now. She is helping remake the “how” of coming together — and more importantly, the “why.” Long before the pandemic, she points out, we had fallen into rote forms for staff meetings, birthday parties, conferences, shared meals. Virtual or physical, this time of regathering offers a threshold we can decide to cross with imagination, purpose, and joy. "...

..."This is a conversation with so much to walk away from and put immediately into practice."

Please help me learn Mastodon: who sees the reply toots? Is it only the people who are following me, or who explicitly open the original toot to see replies? Thanks!

@hugovdm My understanding is that it depends on how you set it. When you reply, on the little bar at the bottom there's a globe. If you click/touch it you will see the settings you can select. Public means it will show up on everyones timeline, everywhere. Unlisted means it won't show in the timelines but anyone who clicks into the post can see it, and so on. I think the location of the globe is similar across a lot of the apps/web page, but I added a pic of how mine is.
@the_stitching_squid aha, thanks! My Android app doesn't have "Unlisted" as an option while writing this reply, but I'll keep exploring, including checking out the the Web version.
@hugovdm I tried the official Android app and found it lacking. I'm using Tusky currently, an unofficial app, and it's been great so far. Mastodn itself recommend using third party apps since they rushed theirs. But they're continuing to work on it too. Maybe unlisted will show up there soon too. It's great on web browser too, but I haven't posted anything from web to see the options there.
