i would be dead several times over were it not for mutual aid from the fediverse
this is peoples' actual survival you're toying with here, when you tell someone not to ask for funds so they can continue being alive... that's fucked up!!!
like obviously the shit with mastodon.world comes from that whole reddit attitude of "no self-promotion"
which is entirely bullshit. like if i'm sharing something i've lovingly crafted with a community that i think will enjoy it... that's participating!!! why does it fucking matter that i made the song/video/whatever?
it all comes down to a rude-as-fuck assumption
that anyone posting anything they've made or just asking for help trying to survive
must have sneaky evil ulterior motives
and, naturally, all the shit about artists and "self-promotion" recently also applies here

say an artist posts their art here on the fediverse
and gets a commission
and does it and gets paid and all that
at the end of the day that's a NET POSITIVE
because it helped someone continue to survive
once again, this is about CONTINUING TO EXIST
you gotta know who your enemies are, y'know? it's actual capitalists, not regular people just trying to put food on the fucking table
like, what are you so afraid of?
that people who you feel are undeserving might get... something?

there would be enough to go around for all of us if the world wasn't so horribly mismanaged, and by acting this way you're just contributing to the problem
