Me as a younger kid watching certain blockbuster horror movies: Immersion ruined, cast is too stupid. Why did they open that door instead of just going home? Lame.

Me years later playing #SilentHill2: WHY DID I OPEN THAT FUCKING DOOR FUCK I HOPE THE NEXT ONE IS LOCKED OR JAMMED HERE GOES NOTHING AAAAAAAAAAAA

It would take my friend and I an entire night just to check a single hallway. We would take turns holding the controller and staring at the FUCKING DOOR.
Also is anything scarier than the monsters in #SilentHill1? I wouldn’t know what the fuck I was looking at but I sure was terrified of letting it catch me. I remember just running in circles during one boss fight for such a long time because I was too scared to even turn and look at it lol.
@luka
As someone who experienced it way after the ps1 era, SH3 is scarier imo but only because SH1 is so old. Some stuff is still genuinely so scary and disturbing in it. That's why I was hoping for a SH1 remake rather than SH2. SH1 would have been sooooooo terrifying. The whole cat jumpscare build up? Alessa in a wheelchair? The whole concept of the Nowhere? I don't think modern horror games have even caught up with that level of fucked up yet.
@batbunlore wow, I didn’t even think about how much better it would’ve been to remake SH1! The main reason why I’m happy that they’re remaking SH2 is because I can more easily re-experience the story, but I would rather just…replay the original SH2, yknow? SH1, on the other hand, could definitely benefit from more modern graphics and mechanics (the controls frustrated me IIRC) to serve its story/atmosphere.
@luka
Exactly!!! SH2 is retro, we can't deny it, but the whole experience still holds up so well. SH1 is clearly the one suffering the passage of time the most, so fingers crossed for a successful SH rebirth so it can get some love!
@batbunlore I think SH2’s technical limitations also enhanced it in some ways, like the awkward dialogue instilling this sense of unease and the pervasive fog providing a (heh) thick atmosphere…Whereas with SH1, the technical limitations were primarily a source of frustration for me. I do tend to like not knowing exactly what I’m looking at in horror games, but not necessarily to that extent, haha. (Catworld demo is kind of a sweet spot for me with that concept.)
@luka
Yeah I totally agree! But I do understand that some people want a fresh SH2 and feel stopped by its quirks, although it's perfect like that to me. I'm gonna be honest, I didn't finish SH1 myself precisely because of the extremely clunky gameplay.... it is very frustrating especially when you see the crazy potential it has. Idk about catworld, i'm gonna check it out thanks!
@luka
Hahaha same, when I was a teen I got stuck in the toilets for 2 hours in Origins and dropped the game because it was too scary to me. SH2 was the first I ever finished and we played turns with my sister
@batbunlore What a coincidence that we both played SH2 with another person, passing the controller back and forth… I think we often just encouraged each other’s terror but I also don’t know if I could’ve finished it alone, haha. (btw, love your new icon!!)
@luka
Yess! I think you're the first person I talk to that actually played it like that as well. It can be a great way to play it and to get to the end of a game you wouldn't have experienced otherwise because of the fear factor.
(And thank youuu 💖)
