Algorithm Warfare: How Elon Musk uses Twitter to control brains

Like Trump, Musk has weaponized tweets for the information war

@stevesilberman I've been thinking a lot about how only 17.5 million people voted in the CEO poll, and I'm beginning to think that Twitter matters a lot less than I thought it did. I wonder if advertisers have noted the same.

“Twitter only has power because we — collectively — give it power.“

Very true. It is also true that virtual town squares can be recreated elsewhere very rapidly by the members - us. Mastodon has gained ~2M users since Musk took over.

I wrote about this here: https://briangordon.ca/2022/12/16/the-time-has-come-to-abandon-twitter/. Staying on Twitter enables Musk at this point, but we can and are moving elsewhere fast.

The Time has Come to Abandon Twitter | The Way Home

Unlike a physical public square that we can and should fight for, Twitter is a virtual public space that can be remade literally overnight elsewhere. And it is.

@stevesilberman @georgelakoff I do wonder if his purchase is not a deliberate project to kill social mardis democracy.
@stevesilberman @georgelakoff Yes. He is a danger for human being

What is a danger to democracy isn't not shutting down conversation...A danger to democracy is shutting down conversation.
@stevesilberman @georgelakoff @morgfair It's been like this since 2015. Longer actually, started around 2010, but it really picked up then with more dark money funding. It's how UK left the EU (Brexit).
It's not enough to try to be mindful. Think of it as cyberwar, a highly sophisticated psyops. It's designed to persuade/confuse.
You can be curious and step back, watch from a distance, and/or stay focused on your own values, create a boundary on BS.
