Very true. It is also true that virtual town squares can be recreated elsewhere very rapidly by the members - us. Mastodon has gained ~2M users since Musk took over.
I wrote about this here: https://briangordon.ca/2022/12/16/the-time-has-come-to-abandon-twitter/. Staying on Twitter enables Musk at this point, but we can and are moving elsewhere fast.

It's not enough to try to be mindful. Think of it as cyberwar, a highly sophisticated psyops. It's designed to persuade/confuse.
You can be curious and step back, watch from a distance, and/or stay focused on your own values, create a boundary on BS.
