I now have an early 2015 MacBook Pro. I'm going to install Linux on it.

Which flavor of Linux would you recommend for a programmer who's interested in deep learning and heavy statistical models?

#Linux #distroHelp #programming #statisticalAnalysis #deepLearning

@Chip_Unicorn I'm not sure what's all supported by a 2015 Macbook Pro but if you want to focus the most on the actual work at hand, it would be best to go with a well-supported distro such as Ubuntu, Pop_OS!, Fedora, etc. If you want to tinker with the actual OS something like Arch could work but otherwise I would stick with more well supported ones personally.

@Chip_Unicorn pop and Ubuntu are both very approachable for people coming from OSX, plus they have pretty good support.

which distro you use is not going to make a huge impact on what models you can run, 99% of software is compatible with all the common distros.

@Chip_Unicorn is it the 15 inch with a discrete GPU? If so, is it the nvidia or the AMD one? (Changes recommendation slightly)
@Chip_Unicorn
I never installed Linux on a MacBook. However, some Ubuntu derivative such as mint or popos made me highly productive in programming and data science
