The pushback I'm getting from white people today for blocking instances for protecting bad actors is a tell-tale sign that they are terrified of consequences for letting that behavior fester in their own instances.

The fact they are so angry and belligerent tells me I'm right on the money as far as moderation policy goes.
Here's the thing.

I don't care if you think I'm being unfair. I don't care if you feel like I'm being too harsh. And I really don't care if you don't like me because of my policy of cutting off access to instances with awful people on them.

Either you are building a fedi that is safer for everyone, or you are just building another shitty platform.

This is not a point of negotiation.

If you don't like it, feel free to stay on whatever dusty instance you like and argue with your bigot friends.
@Are0h at a fundamental level, it is completely nonsensical for people not even on your instance to get their underwear up their ass over your moderation decisions. Your autonomy to curate your space should have zero impact on their days/lives yet here we are. Then to try to pull some DARVO by claiming marginalization and label you with various -isms, it's like the icing on the racist cake
@alcapurrias They are afraid that my ideas will catch on, and there will be less space in the fedi for their casual bigotry and harassment.

The desperation I'm seeing today is telling me I'm going in the right direction, because you're right. It doesn't make any sense to be this concerned.

Unless they are worried about it spreading.
@Are0h definitely. Their entire identity is based on a false sense of superiority, and any suggestion that threatens that belief is showing them that without white supremacy and toxic masculinity, they have no identity and thus aren't special at all. And tbh I live for it
@alcapurrias And that's why they constantly try to dismiss what I'm saying by literally just making shit it up.

Their entire existence is predicated on harassing our communities. Without that, they will turn on each other.

These people do not even like themselves.
@Are0h Your community's safety is paramount above all else.
@atomicpoet @Are0h I can not agree with you more. The other site was so damaging, I left without saving any of it. I only left and joined here 30 days ago - learning my way around . . .
And happier for being here -
@Are0h I don't understand why they feel entitled to you so aggressively if they very clearly can't stand you being here. Why is it even a problem to them if you defederate? Make it make sense
@Shrigglepuss Because bigots are needy and they seek validation in our groups that they just can't get from their own.

Cutting off access to us is an existential threat to them because they thrive on being able to cause misery to distract from their own for a few brief moments.

Because, as you know, I
never go after these people. They always come at me and say I'm unfair because I won't give space to their nonsense.

They dislike me but still want access to me because they feel entitled to it.
@Are0h Apparently I'm not as fluent in English as I thought, so I don't understand the sentence you wrote.
You block instances because they protect bad actors? Meaning people, who are not talented in acting?
I suspect I miss something crucial here.
@xalibur bad actors as in people who instigate negative confrontations with Black and Brown people unprovoked.
@Are0h OH! Thank you for your clarification! And keep up the good work!
@xalibur @Are0h it's the English language being confusing. Bad actor can mean "not skilled at acting" but in this context it's more like "a person who does bad actions".

@Are0h

The fact they are so angry and belligerent tells me I'm right on the money as far as moderation policy goes. No, that's because you are a hilarious idiot who keeps being rude to strangers pretending to be a defender of the oppressed minorities. How long have you been there? Maybe, RFC 1855 would be the best starting point to learn how to behave like an educated person?
