Turns out when you open a bunch of recommendations people send you for great African music without realizing 3 of them are autoplaying in background tabs you get some fascinating and highly angular/cascading experimental audio art
@mrcompletely I got a sort-of sideways education about Henry Kaiser by researching African jazz/Alice Coletrane. Found out that an old friend did an album with him and Diamanda Galas.

I'm guessing that would be Jim French. He sounds like a fascinating guy. At first I thought he might be related to John 'Drumbo' French, who also played with Kaiser, but I see Jim is from OK.

@ks2problema @mrcompletely Yes, Jim French, a fellow Okie, who was a talented musician, reed carver (for Pharoah Sanders) and instrument builder. I say "was" as last I heard, he had left music behind. When I was last in touch, he had begun to travel some dark far-right (in political-speak, left-hand in Pagan-speak) paths on which neither my husband nor I could join. He and my husband brewed huge quantities of mead together, and I think we still have a couple of flutes he made.
