Hello!

New instance, new pinned intro:

I go by Croc as the name suggests. Formerly on Twitter I used microdile, for reasons not worth going into.

Grew up in the '80s and I have infinite nostalgia for it's music, movies and pop culture.

Love physical media and own over 4000 CDs, 500 vinyls and 500 blu-rays.

Been remixing and DJing for about 25 years as AudioDile, and in furry for almost 30.

Enjoy writing and have a blog at crocumentary.com.

Expect lots of fursuits, wit and introspection!

@croc, what all genre do you spin?

@wolfsbruder

It varies a little, but typically some combination of french house/nu disco/future house/electro house, typically remixes of popular songs from the 80s to current.

@croc oohhh all stuff I love :)

I haven't spun any house myself in a long time tho :(

@croc longtime listener and fan of your #mashups. Glad to find you here on Mastadon! (Thanks to a little help from @djsqwrl )

@pdsmix @djsqwrl

Hey! It's always great to meet fellow music lovers, especially when they like my stuff, which I should do more of haha.

There's actually a few things I've done that are hard to find or not available on the internet. I should make a list.

Also thanks @djsqwrl for the plug!

@croc I would def love some links to stuff not currently available on your website! Also, I have a burning question about your track “More Werewolves Of London”. Did you make that in 2006? And did Kid Rock (and crew) capitalize on your idea in 2008 without attribution? Would love to know more, as I don’t have all the facts.

@pdsmix

2006 sounds right. Back when GYBO was booming.

As for Kid Rock, who knows.. anyone who listens to both songs can hear the similarities and I'm not sure I was the first to do it, just the first time I'd seen it done. It made me roll my eyes a little when I first heard it, but if he'd also borrowed one of the other tracks in my mashup that would be pretty obvious.

I'm not really a Kid Rock fan for various reasons, but it is what it is. Just glad to have made something people enjoy.

@croc at the time the Kid Rock song came out, I was hopeful that you might have been benefitting from it, the same way numerous producers in the GYBO & related communities had forged relationships with artists like Bowie or Paul McCartney. Had it not been all over radio, I would have missed it too, as I’m not a Kid Rock fan. Thank you for the info to provide clarity here.
@croc and yes, your version is the first I heard, was a bit of a shock to hear it on radio two years later. Yours is very enjoyable and preferable, IMO. The story I’ve gleaned from the other side is that Kid Rock’s DJ at the time, Mike E Clark, made the mashup and Kid Rock didn’t like it; later taking the exact same idea, using it and not crediting Mike E Clark. So, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it is what it is.

@pdsmix That figures, LOL.

Here's a screenshot of all the mashups I've done to date. Does not include remixes.

@croc so much here I currently don’t have. Please let me know where I might procure. I do have a track called “Raccoon Leg” that isn’t on this list but attributed to you. This is yours, yes?

@pdsmix

Raccoon Legs is one of the earliest things I ever did. It's kind of a piss take, The Raccoon Song is a very flat novelty song and I threw Art of Noise on it just for kicks and was amused enough to save.

I could redo it properly, but the demand isn't exactly high, haha.

@croc as someone who made this, I’m always down for a novelty mashup. (Remix.audio is back online, musta been a blip) https://remix.audio/track/45903/fish-heads-will-roll-blue-like-a-hole-barnes-amp-barnes-vs-yeah-yeah-yeahs-vs-nin-vs-new-order

@pdsmix

LOL. This is wild. I did NOT expect to ever hear a dance mix of Fish Heads, especially this one.

You're a maniac in the best way.

@croc I love to get weird, for sure. I also make some more straightforward mashups, but I really enjoy making stuff that melts people’s head. Here’s a style I don’t normally do, but was part of a community mix I participated in. I liked the audio so much I made a video for it. (And honestly I think it works better as a video, but it took a lot of time.) https://youtu.be/3qnWATZeXmE?si=Mllt_Lax64jzCFPD

@croc also the bootleg archive only has a few of your tracks. It’s hosted by a GYBO era producer, Instamatic / tbc / DJNoNo who does the Radio Clash podcast. His attempt to archive mashups pre-2014. https://bootleg.radioclash.com/artists/Audiodile/
@croc while I have you here, was this an actual vinyl release? Or am I chasing rainbows? https://www.discogs.com/release/13741136-AudioDile-Dont-Touch-That-Dile

Discogs

@pdsmix It's real, but it wasn't ever for sale and it's 1 of 1 copies. Was a gift to me from good friends.

I suppose it shouldn't be on discogs, but I use it to keep track of everything I own and I thought I would be fun to make people wonder. ;)

However...

I have been toying with the idea of putting together CDs of my mashups (and one of remixes). It wouldn't be for sale at shops or anything, I'd probably just distribute copies to people since almost none of it is licensed.

@croc have you checked out https://Remix.audio? Quite the scene of mashup producers there, is hosted in Canada with different IP laws, so no takedowns. Would love to see your work represented there.
@croc LOL, and of course the moment I recommend something the website is down. *facepalm*

@pdsmix

I didn't list it among the mashups, but probably the most famous track I've done is Anew Contraption, which is a huge mashup of Boards of Canada songs.

There are at least 5 or 6 different videos that people have made for it over the years. Pretty happy with that one, it's always nice when you get a lot of great feedback.

@croc fantastic work, and holy hell what a sample list! Cool BOC Medley / Mash.
@croc amazing. Totally wish it was more than one copy. Lol. Leave it up, but if you still have it, add some label shots to the listing so we can see it’s real.
@pdsmix There are photos! Just no inner sleeve besides a transparent one.
@croc oh shit, my bad. Yeah, I see the pics now. Coulda swore it was just the cover. Haha
