its hard to believe that in Minneapolis, there are at least 4 city CM that think we should have Rent Control as strict as what St. Paul just tried & had to modify because it essentially ended multi-familiy development. Mpls is on a housing binge building thousands more units than comparative cities, seeing rents stable or even decreasing in some segments, proving for the 1000th time that the laws of supply and demand are relevant to housing. #Mnastodon #rentcontrol #minneapolis
@mike_minnesota if you don’t support rent control measures, I’m curious if you support massive increases in public housing? How else do we help move people out of housing insecurity?
For the record, I’m happy my CM, Elliott Payne, supports rent control. The voters of Minneapolis approved along with strong mayor, after all.
@NE_Purple_Mom I think public housing has a role, not massive though. I like the scattered site stuff MPHA is doing in Mpls right now. Building new housing - market rate and affordable is the best way to preserve NOAH and keep rent down. Rent Control has been shown repeatedly to stifle new construction and cause disinvestment. its bad policy. #Mpls2040 is leading to some increased multi-fam developments which is good.
@mike_minnesota Hm. I guess we’re going to have to agree to disagree on that!
