My experience (mainly tested with a daughter with very curly hair) is that actual closed rings are better than any other type of (non-closed-circle) earring and I would imagine that the results hold for other piercing locations.
@muellerwhh I haven’t managed to find a closed ring that I like, which is probably on me. This was an open ring and now I’ve pretty much switched to the L shaped stud type
