There'll come a time soon I hope that I'll be able to drop Facebook. Unfortunately still too many of my contacts, friends and family are on it who I wont be able to convince to drop it themselves.
At the same time I hope that Mastodon doesn't overburden itself with features in the years to come.
There's a pleasantness to its simplicity.

@dutchbarracuda TRUE! back then there were a lot of messengers already. I myself used ICQ, MSN and some others. Now that these messengers would make more sense, since you could have an awesome App on your phone they aren't there anymore.

I remember Trillian came along at one point to try and mash them all together in a single program, only for it to be.... terrible.
If I were to only accept one messenger app these days, it'd probably be Discord for it's all-in-one'ness, together with the Fediverse.
That'd do me just fine for social networking.

@dutchbarracuda you've got a point on Discord.
Thank you for reminding me of Trillian. I tried it for a while and it was okay. At least you didn't need to run all programs at once. I think I switched back for compatibility reasons.
