A pro #mastodontip to new Mastodon users - compared to BirdApp threads are kind of annoying on here, but if you set the visibility of follow up posts in a thread to Unlisted they are much nicer in terms of how they are shown in your feeds (much more like BirdApp).

We encourage Sigmoiders to adopt this convention.

This is an example of a follow up post on a threads set to Unlisted
Now all follow up posts are automatically default to Unlisted
@thegradient Does this change the way they're displayed anywhere other than the Local/Federated feeds? In those places, only the first post will appear. But in Home feed, or on your profile page, all three posts still appear for me, separately, and in reverse order.
@TedUnderwood it is defined as do not show on public timelines, so I suppose home and profile page don't count...
@Yarin @thegradient If you follow, it shows up normally. Replies now won't show up in the local or federated timelines
@Riedl @Yarin yep, unlisted is defined as "do not show in public timelines". Unfortunately this does not apply to home timeline, presumably.
@thegradient @Yarin I wish Mastodon gathered up threads. Don’t need anything more algorithmic than that. But until then, we just do it like the early days of Twitter
@thegradient new to mastodon - just wondering how to tweak the recommendation algorithm - is it just based on what I like?
@thegradient
Fedilab app offers to do this automatically, and hopefully other will follow suit.
