Ever wonder what "arm doors for departure and cross check" or "disarm doors for arrival and cross check" means?

Most frequent travelers know that it has to do with enabling and disabling the emergency slides. However, I didn't know why some airlines open the door from inside, while others open the door from outside. This comment (spotted on onemileatatime.com) taught me something new! #avgeek

Well this is true for new planes, older designs like the 737 (or most regional jets) do not have that feature.
They will usually have an indicator on the outside to show the door status.

The goal of the double thumbs up is for the ground crew and the flight crew to both confirm the door is disarmed.
