@profmusgrave I’m just watching the superb BBC docuseries Traumazone and gasped at how in 1993, self-styled Liberal Democrat Zhirinovsky won 23% of the Duma vote on a platform of: vote for me and there will be no more elections.

However, just like we can favor Capitalism, but need regulations to curtail the largest excesses of greed, we need to have Democracy with protections of Truth. I don't mean suppression of opinion, but I do mean prosecution of falsifications - claimed as TRUTHS - disseminated with malice aforethought and with the intention to defraud.
