You could try out Pixelfed, which is also a federated network that uses Activity Pub, but is more geared towards photo/video sharing (read this:like Instagram). People are still able to comment to these photos or like them using their Mastodon accounts and if you reshare/boost them on this Mastodon account, they won't even need to follow you there to do so.
