@donieosullivan I would be interested in knowing whether taxpayer subsidized institutions that are home to many official twitter accounts (eg *.gov in the US) should be creating mastodon instances. Why should communication with taxpayers (or reporters) be held in a privately held toxic mire? Would large institutions not be well placed to provide the IT infrastructure? If twitter's core of influence is because reporters consider being there crucial to staying informed, then what's keeping those informers on that channel? As a start, why does the White House, NASA, etc. not drop twitter for an official US govt mastodon instance?
