Boosting is faster and easier and reaches the same audience. The only difference is you can't add a message.

Making your own post with a link (which results in a preview) takes only a couple more seconds and accomplishes the same thing as a QT, doesn't it?

If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Edit: Looks like preview behavior varies from instance to instance.TIL. That seems like a bug they should fix. Whatever the intended behavior is, it should be consistent.

@kewms @cogspace I mean, can we give the ability to quote-toot to independent instance administrators, each of whom can set whatever options they want for their own server? Then all the quote-toot wanters can just move over to the quote-toot loving servers.

@lxtruong @cogspace In theory, sure. The server software is open source, so a QT-wanting developer could add the function and a QT-wanting admin could use it. Interactions with the QT-hating part of the Fediverse might get complicated, though.

@kewms @cogspace In theory but if you forked it for quote tweets and that broke inter-operability with main mastodon servers that'd be bad.
