With retweets on by default here I realize how much I hate retweets €.€
@tekfox retweets / boosts are pretty important for discovery here though. There’s no other recommendation system or “algorithm” otherwise to add other posts to your feed, only boosts / RTs can do that. They sort of have a different use compared to Twitter.
@CyberKitsune I get that. I used a twitter 3rd party app with everyone’s retweets disabled so I only read what was in my timeline no suggestions. It’s hard as I don’t want my TL to be other stuff folks think is interesting with 0 context

@tekfox ah! I suppose if that’s what you’re going for then that makes more sense ^^

I do think you can hide them from your feed (on the web ui at least) by turning off the “show boosts” option at the top, as seen here:

@CyberKitsune @tekfox And of course you have to do that in the web interface and not the app.
@ruka @tekfox to be fair I think it’s up to the individual apps to support the show / hide boosts thing. If you’re on the stock mastodon app it may not even be there? Metatext & Toot! on iOS / Tusky on Android have their own setting for it! ^^
@CyberKitsune @tekfox A-ha! Is there one that folks seem to agree is a better experience than default? I got rid of official bird for tweetbot and life was so much better.

@ruka @tekfox if you’re on iOS, Metatext is the best for free, and I like Toot! A lot but it’s $3.99 one time.

The people who made tweetbot are also working on a Mastodon app! It’s not out yet but is called Ivory, you can follow it here @ivory
