A lot of people are job hunting, more than usual in tech due to layoffs.

Job hunts are stressful enough on their own, but much more so during the holidays. Unfortunately, companies' usually poor hiring comms drop to near zero this time of year, causing even more stress to job seekers

If you're hiring, PLEASE tell applicants if you won't realistically get to reviewing apps until the new year.

One little email is all it takes. It's respectful and it can reduce stress for your applicants.

This toot brought to you by the stack of messages I have from laid-off friends & contacts freaking out about radio silence from all the companies where they've applied.
@vmbrasseur I'd go even further and say that should be the norm in all hiring processes. But for those people, who've got bills and committments at an already expensive time of the year - even more so.
@bernat @vmbrasseur And, always good to remind, if one needs to fire someone, please attempt to not do it until next year.

@locksmithprime

Well that's just being an empathic human. If someone does the alternative......I mean seriously?!

@vmbrasseur

@bernat @vmbrasseur cruelty came back as a trend 6 years ago, we still have not gotten rid of it...

@vmbrasseur

I've pretty much given up applying for FT jobs (for me a UX designer in Open Source Software companies) due to this - not replying ever, even with a no thanks.

All of these HR/recruitment management software platforms - I can't believe there is no "update applicant" user/work flow. If not why not!?

@bernat Yes, it should, but that strays into "blog post, not toot" territory and therefore is more commitment than I'm willing to have right now. 😉

@vmbrasseur Oh my comment wasn't expecting/requiring reply!

More just something that I can't get to the bottom of, I've heard differing rationale for the behaviour.

My experience from being on the other side of this:
If you are still doing comms and conducting interviews over this period, this is an excellent opportunity to hire great people by moving faster than your competition.
@vmbrasseur @ian And of course you know that after total and complete non-communication from the place you were really interested in, after you’ve found another gig, they’ll contact you out of the blue 9 months from now in a total panic with “omg omg we really want you can you start yesterday?!?”
@vmbrasseur yeah I’m currently one of those laid off tech humans panicking about radio silence 💦
@Haste My sympathies. Try to take heart in the fact that it's not you, it's them. They're being big, disrespectful jerk faces.
@vmbrasseur hell yeah. Thanks fam. 🤜🤛
@vmbrasseur Terrible otime of year for contracting too...
