Here's one of the many beautiful things about Mastodon and the Fediverse:

I saw that @johnvoorhees opened a Pixelfed profile. That service is powered by federation too. So here's what I did:

- Took his profile URL: https://pixelfed.social/johnvoorhees
- Changed it to: @[email protected]
- Searched for the account, and followed him.

Now John's photo feed is another account, from a completely different service, that I follow on my Mastodon. I love this.

I *thought* that was how it was supposed to work... but when I tried this trick on someone else before it didn't.. Just tried the same again with John and still returns nothing. I wonder if this something to do with my tiny instance not federating/knowing about pixelfed yet?
@ivor @viticci @johnvoorhees I'm having the same problem. Hoping someone replies to us with a setting to tweak because I could see my issue being the result of self-hosting my instance.
@andrew @viticci @johnvoorhees I'm wondering if it's a timing/sync issue. I can find and follow other pixelfed accounts. I can't see how you can force your instance to refresh it's directory, I'll dive back into the manual.
@andrew @viticci @johnvoorhees
searched again now and he does pop up, so must be an update timing issue... albeit would be good to know *how* and *when* etc this happens.
@ivor @viticci @johnvoorhees
Working for me as well now. Thanks!

Hopefully now that I am connected to one Pixelfed account my instance will search for others more reliably.
