@OgieOgilthorpe @godpod It is the network that connects the other Mastodon servers together. If you check out the Federated feed, you should get posts from from other servers that this server sees.

And it allows all the servers to communicate.

Think of it like a group of email servers in that if you are on Gmail you can send and receive email from Outlook or AOL or Yahoo or whatever because there is a standard for communication.
