I've loaded up all the old tweets I want to delete, but I'm feeling a bit anxious about clicking that button.
@tony they were never yours to begin with
@mlarsen oof, well, that hits hard. yeah.

@tony I feel you. I just used this tool to remove everything from my bird site- it was like leaving a toxic girlfriend.

@tony i have regularly purged tweets over the years. Just let it go
@tony you’ve got tens of thousands of followers here. You’ll be fine. 🦣🦣🦣🦣🦣🦣🦣🦣🦣🦣🦣🦣
@Colliding_Waves It's not about that. It's about my prior reporting, live tweets covering protests, etc. It's history I don't want to lose both for myself or people down the road.
@tony @Colliding_Waves Good news. You can upload your Twitter archive to the Internet Archive.

@tony understood. Unfortunately #Twitter will be abandoned by those that would benefit from that hostory. Hope you find peace in whatever you decide.
@tony I just pulled the trigger on mine.
@tony don’t delete anything. We’re not burning books. Leave your legacy standing, and your account intact. Just don’t be active there anymore.
@tony 🎶breaking up is hard to do🎶
@tony have strength, brother
@tony Took me about four tries before actually following through. But I'm glad I did it. I don't want my data in the hands of a maniac.
@tony no need to delete everything not sensitive. Just lock & abandon
@tony I know the feeling, but at a certain point its better to just move on
@tony I archived everything and had just a tiny bit of hesitation of deleting over a decade of tweets. Then they were gone and I feel a weight lifted. Made it a lot easier to leave Twitter for good.
@tony once you have the archive, go ahead and do it.
It felt wonderful
@tony Umm… maybe wait a day or two for developments.
@timbray @tony won't matter the result of the poll. He still will pick his replacement. He'll still be pulling the strings.

@tony If you already have an archived copy, there's only one important reason why deleting them might be problematic: if they were cited by someone deletion will create a 404 error.

Most of my stuff worth citing had backup sources so deletion was fine.

@tony Buddhist monks destroy their beautiful mandalas on purpose for a reason. Celebrate the freedom that comes from embracing impermanence! https://www.huffpost.com/entry/mandala-why-destroy-it_b_970479/amp
The Mandala: Why Do Monks Destroy It?

They destroy it. Why? Because the underlying message of the mandala ceremony is that nothing is permanent. Nothing. All things are in flux, it says, beautiful but ephemeral, moving but temporary, a plateau but not a summit

@tony Don't. I've been banned from 💩tter for a while. I've gotten over it and found this space to be more accommodating and friendly. I was threatened, told to kill myself, that I was guilty of stolen Valor, but didn't hesitate to go somewhere that people are normal. I'm too old and sick and tired of these extremists brainwashed mofos.
@tony Just don't feed the beast ...close DM's and just log out and stay off. He won't last much longer😁
@tony About a year ago, I set mine up on auto-delete after 90 days. I figured that Twitter is mostly a real-time medium, and there isn't much good to come from having those old Tweets lingering out there. I was nervous at first, but got used to it quickly. (Though now I'm kind of wondering if the APIs will even be supported long enough for my last 90 days worth to be deleted on the normal timeline...)
@tony Save your archive. I bet there'll be a way to publish it at some point.....
@tony I deleted my account - 900 posts (mainly my photography). I’m glad I did - essentially I did not wish to provide the platform with content.
