I recommend you post some info on your profile, do an introductory post, use hash tags, boost posts you like and follow those people (you can always unfollow later), and leave comments. Since Mastodon is not driven by an algorithm, it works through user participation and will be what you make of it.
@athelas1001 Well, thanks so much for the warm welcome. I look forward to my journey here. It already is proving to be much better than the algorithm based social platforms I've left behind.
