This is actually quite the tell from EM. It’s an admission that: 1) People are clearly leaving. 2) It’s becoming a problem. 3) Initially, Musk didn’t care if we, the non-MAGA crowd left. Now, apparently he does. All very interesting. And it suggests he thinks MAGA won’t be enough
@aravosis what did he say now?
@robbdogg @aravosis Yeah, that’s what I’m wondering. Which tell, pray tell?
@aravosis If he actually took advice and listened to smart people, he would have known that. But he’s yet another “I alone can fix it” type and so is doomed to fail.

@aravosis

Sadly, I've worked for institutions like this. One individual will do something that ticks off a higher up. Suddenly the next morning there's a memo outlining a ridiculously broad new policy that fucks with everyone.

Sometimes Management will back down, but I suspect Elmo isn't the type to admit he's, you know, being a dipshit.

@aravosis there is not enough money in the maga crowd. The maga label scares advertisers and only few of them are going to pay for the privilege of an echo chamber.
If the maga crowd was enough to build a social medium on Parler or Truth would haven proven so.
@aravosis I've been saying there's a reason those far right sites keep failing. Anyone can open Word and write slurs, but that's not fun. Anyone can join a nazi site and do the same, but after a bit that's unfulfilling. What they really want is someone to harass. And that's what Musk thought he was buying, a captive audience for harassment. Must be terrible to see them just pack up and leave, because he knows how little fun Gab and Parler were, even for those wanting to bevthere.
@aravosis I think Twitter's Daily Active Users have been declining since people are trying out other sites & finding some of their favorite Twitter accounts on sites that don't coddle nazis. The DAU metric is crucial for twitters metrics. As major content creators are found posting on other sites, people are not making a daily Twitter check-in a priority. The bird site is officially circling the drain.
@aravosis The bankers can’t be happy.
@aravosis Yes, this is actually great news. I mean the reasons corporations seem to favor non right-wing extremists is that there's a lot more money in catering to moderates and progressives. He's going to learn that the hard way.
@aravosis Proof that ego alone is never enough.
