@catominor It’s like email. You can sign up to any email service and talk to anyone on any other email service. Similarly you can join any instance and talk to anyone on any other instance.
@Liberonscien That was actually my understanding and then I tried to use my mas.to account on another server and it did not work. Hmm. I have to learn :D. I know it is described somewhere what to do.
@catominor Did you try to login to your mas.to account on that other instance’s website? If so then that’s not how it works.
@Liberonscien Oh, yeah. So that was my misunderstanding. I thought that I can create one account and access all servers / instances.
@catominor How it works is that you go to another instance’s website, find an account you want to follow, go back to your home instance (in your case mas.to), search for their username, and follow them.
@catominor The way to think about it is that it’s just like email. You wouldn’t expect to be able to go to Outlook Mail’s website and be able to login to your GMail account there.
@Liberonscien Yeah, that is practically what I am doing but I thought there is also a way how to get a specific timeline from a specific server.
@catominor If you want that then you can do that but I only know the basics of using Mastodon so I wouldn’t be able to help you.
@Liberonscien That is fine, we are all learning :). And I hope that with many new gifted developers here, we will get better and better tools to manage Mastodon.
