Twitter is now saying they officially will block links to competitor websites, including Mastodon instances, Instagram, Facebook, and others.

However, links to Vkontakte, Telegram, Truth Social, Parler, and TikTok all worked as of this writing.

@davetroy interesting, supposedly Truth Social is on “the list.” I noted it because it looked like a blatant attempt to look fair and balanced.
@davetroy but I bet promoting Post is just fine though, amirite?
@KAnon Post made “the list” as well.
@Sedunker thanks for that info
@KAnon @Sedunker We’ll see how that new rule is applied (I will probably get suspended). Not including Post would have been too obvious.
@davetroy they are waiting for free analysis from critics. when would be no serious concerns about legality, they will finish it
@davetroy “FREEDOM REQUIRES TRUTH, AND SO TO SMASH FREEDOM YOU MUST SMASH TRUTH”

@davetroy free speech! lol.

But also: lol.

@davetroy It is becoming apparent that #twitter acquisition is highly political. This is one more platform for the billionaire's feasting on the rabid #conservative following.
‘Musk’s Twitter Buy Makes No Sense – Unless It’s Part of Something Bigger’

Brexit and Trump were initially seen as jokes, but the new owner of the social media giant could pose a serious threat to democracy – and a boon for Vladimir Putin, writes David Troy

Byline Times
@davetroy Your writing is worthier than Bitcoin. #ElonMusk loses little with the Arabs on his back. I hope #jackdorsey loses his money once the world take grasp of Musk's vile and ultimate intention.
@davetroy I’m interested in how they’re planning on enforcing this policy after cutting most of their staff. Using automation would essentially remove a massive amount of users, many of whom either don’t use Twitter that often or would rather leave than deal with this nonsense, and I don’t think they have enough staff remaining to deal with this manually.

@davetroy enforcement seems a bit spotty. My own links from Twitter to Mastodon and Post still work too. My guess is only a fraction of the offending links have been caught .. yet.

For a month now, Musk has been begging Trump to please, please with Splenda® on top come back to his reinstated Twitter account, thus far to no avail. Would be fun if Trump did come back just once, to plug Truth Social and see how long that stayed up.

@davetroy what about links to even worse “social media” sites like his neo-Nazi pals?

@davetroy Apparently, “cross-posting” articles or content is okay. But, not sending people to your account.

Clear as mud.

@davetroy Let’s see if we can get Twitter to suspend all of their users
@davetroy Looks like they’ve added Truth Social to that list.
@mtpenna yes, however, site links still work as of now. We'll see.
@davetroy Not that this isn't exactly the kind of mess it obviously is, but in the interest of accuracy, my profile links to my tiny (I'm the only one) Mastodon instance and is still working right now as well.

Yes. Mastodon is feeling a bit like PBS for sure. I'd compare it more to the 1980s PBS.

I'd like it if it moved towards a more modern Democracy Now PBS style.
