🚨 PREDICTION: Within the next few hours, Twitter users who have their Mastodon link in their display name, bio, website link or pinned tweet (which is what tools like Debirdify and Movetodon use, I believe) will suddenly discover that the link has been mysteriously removed.

🚨 BOOM.

At 9:00am,
@debirdify stated that 1,899 of my followers had Mastodon/CS accounts in their bios/names/etc.

As of 2:00pm, just an hour or so after Musk's newest decree banning Mastodon links, only 1,808 have them...even though only 8 more accounts have been deactivated.

It's likely that some users were intimidated by the new link ban into going into their profiles & deleting the links themselves...which itself would be disturbing enough.

But it's also possible that Musk ordered those profiles/names/pinned tweets to be edited internally.

@charlesgaba Well, I'm leaving mine in my bio there. Interesting to see what will happen. (They'll probably focus first on accounts more significant than mine.)
@charlesgaba I’m keeping my mastodon link up ( my username ) will advise
@charlesgaba I sure did delete my username from my user handle on Twitter a minute after the policy was tweeted out
@charlesgaba
My pinned tweet is still up with my mastodon and post contacts...

@charlesgaba My pinned tweet with this account info is still there. For now.

I'm going to miss Twitter.

@charlesgaba I halfway complied. My username is the same everywhere, and I linked my instance, which is small enough that it'll probably be a while before it's flagged.
@charlesgaba Yeah, mine seem to be up for all my accounts, but I'm also just a little pissant.
@charlesgaba @debirdify Fluctuations like this have been occurring for weeks. I wonder whether it’s people deleting or locking their accounts.
@charlesgaba @debirdify No, Charles, I think you’re right: spot-checking specific people in diffs of my fedifender dumps, people are •definitely• removing Mastodon links from Twitter profile to avoid getting suspended — and are saying as much in their profiles.
