It'd be useful for someone to put together a checklist for journalists to prepare for the inevitable banning: download archive, delete DMs and phone number, update Masto follows... What else? @dangillmor

@emptywheel @dangillmor Everyone of them should ALREADY have asked for an archive copy and deleted any DMs older than a week.

Before they delete their phone number they should have requested backup codes for 2FA access.

Their profiles should also give alternate addresses right now, using Twitter bypass tools if they are using Mastodon account addresses.

@raynetoday @emptywheel @dangillmor And I just decided to look. Her archive was there, but they didn't email her to notify her. Downloading the archive now! Twitter exit nearly complete!

@TechyDad @emptywheel @dangillmor It's possible it ended up in spam OR that the code to email notification was among the many so-called microservices Musk wanted killed.

Based on my experience, archive requests have taken 2-3 days. Can't hurt to watch settings for notification daily.

@raynetoday @emptywheel @dangillmor She looked in her spam folder repeatedly but there was no email notification. The archive was ready in her settings page though. I'm wondering if they're stopping email notifications hoping that archive requests time out as the users wait for emails before checking back.

@raynetoday @emptywheel @dangillmor I believe 2FA gets disabled when you deactivate. So it basically makes every deactivated account a bit easier to hack? I had 2FA, when I deactivated and reactivated to retrieve a DM, 2FA had been disabled. I am thinking maybe i should shorten my deactivate window so it’s deleted sooner.

@tfitzsimons @emptywheel @dangillmor I'm not deactivating my account because I don't want any troll snagging my identity to use in a manner inconsistent with my true identity -- the same one I use elsewhere including at emptywheel.

I'm just not giving Elmo any DAU count by leaving the account parked. You might consider this option.

And use fedifinder or the like to scrape your following & for profiles and pinned. I'm doing json dumps to catch and archive contact/follow info so I can find them later
