Hi! I’m Jen Riggins, an American living in London with my heart in Spain. I’m a tech journalist and marketer. Mostly for @thenewstack and @containersoluti. I write/host/podcast about tech but don’t tech myself. On Twitter @jkriggins I mostly post about the impact of tech, the randomness of being a mother of a 5.5yo, dogs I meet and gush over, and very left inclusive thoughts. Still not sure what I’m doing here but all the cool kids seem to be here so hi!
Oh and I still don’t really understand this medium just yet but I am starting to realize the work that goes into adminning a server and I want to tip my hat to @nova for building this excellently named, #opensource, deliberately safe space in tech #hachyderm — emphasis on word ‘deliberate’ because it’s a great example of the work that has to be put into creating inclusive, distributed safe spaces online. Thank you Kris! The only thing I put time into was picking my server and you made it clear.
@nova and thank you @quintessence for your hard work too!
@jkriggins @nova what does the name mean? I've been trying to find out 🤣
@dilski @nova I took it as a friendly hacking elephant or rhino so endangered but gentle, powerful and cute? But let’s let Kris answer
@jkriggins @nova oh! TIL about the term pachyderm to describe thick skinned mammals (which includes elephants)
@jkriggins @nova the decentralized community aspect is the key - if someone wants to be a total antagonist they have that right, but it may result a self-hosted instance of one and easily muted or blocked
