A must-read on @[email protected] from Linette Lopez, one of the journalists that Musk has suspended from Twitter.

She has covered his business activities with a critical eye for years.

Elon Musk was always a visionary jerk, bad boss at SpaceX, Tesla. But it won't work at Twitter.

Elon Musk has used the same playbook at all of his companies from Tesla to SpaceX. Sadly for him, his model will cause Twitter to go down in flames.

Insider

Previously, Musk was only able to lob wild accusations at Lopez and provide fodder for his minions to harass her

Now that Musk owns Twitter, he took away her account

There are still people who insist Musk cares about free speech
@juddlegum There are still people who insist the 2020 election was stolen, that climate change doesn't exist, and that the earth is flat. Conspiracy theories keep coming back because they work -- particularly on certain kind of minds under certain conditions. Many Elonstans will never leave him -- it's more like an addiction than like rational thought.
@juddlegum I think it's the same individuals who think Jan 6th was a farce.
@juddlegum We have always been at war with Eastasia!
@DanCast @juddlegum I wonder how many people understand what you are referencing?

@CypherCloudsculpter @juddlegum one of the things about being an old is referencing things that should be universally recognized, and getting back blank stares.

Or asking my teenager who sang a hit song from the 90s, and being confidently told “Katy Perry”.

@juddlegum oh, he does! Just only about his. 🤬

@juddlegum Free Speech to some people means consequence-free speech. It means saying whatever the hell they want without any repercussions. And the reason they want that is that what they have to say is despicable. It's hateful, racist, violent or it amplifies a dangerous conspiracy theory.

The Musk clown car (zero emissions!) is barreling down that road ironically ignoring the "or of the press" clause in the First Amendment he claims to love.

@juddlegum There are still people posting on Twitter even though they (might have) realized he and his company do not.
@juddlegum we’re about to find out musk is another elizabeth Holmes. He’s a fraud, liar, bully and charlatan. This should be a major lesson to all that propped him up. VCs, fawning tech journalism/business journalism over years.
@maryangelaperna1 @juddlegum This is already known.
@chaos @juddlegum I don’t think it was by the broad public. Heck, I didn’t even know who he was prior to a couple of years ago.

@maryangelaperna1 @juddlegum there definitely should be more public awareness about his being a snakeoil salesman.

People can start here:

Thunderf00t has a lot of vids about his scams.

Why you should NEVER believe Elon Musk! (part Deux)

YouTube
@chaos @maryangelaperna1 @juddlegum Thunderf00t is delightfully not-nice about it all. His "why are young-earth creationists a pack of laughable drooling morons" series has some fun moments too.
@chaos @maryangelaperna1 @juddlegum A big reason why a long distance underground transportation system like "hyperloop" is not viable is because of movement in the earth's crust. Imagine what would happen to a 'train' moving at even 55mph if two sections of tunnel shifted out of alignment by even a few inches due to tectonic movement? *shudder*
@maryangelaperna1 @juddlegum at least Musk won’t be able to try and use pregnancy to avoid a jail term

@maryangelaperna1 @juddlegum

After Adam Neumann's rehabilitation by A16Z I've become convinced that either the VCs are incapable of learning such lessons, or that they don't matter to their business models.

@maryangelaperna1 @juddlegum I think it's past "about" to find out. We are already there. Everyone needs to leave and bankrupt him
@maryangelaperna1 @juddlegum Here's one common link: Both Theranos and Musk had Larry Ellison on their Boards. Ellison had a reputation for selling vaporware. Example from 1997: "Oracle's NC - Why is it still Vaporware?"
"One year after forming a division to develop his vaunted network computer, Oracle chief Larry Ellison is still all talk and no product." https://www.sfgate.com/business/article/Oracle-s-NC-Why-It-s-Still-Vaporware-2840680.php
Oracle's NC -- Why It's Still Vaporware

[...] it's been a year and a half since the flamboyant billionaire first voiced his idea...

San Francisco Chronicle
@juddlegum Musk is a slightly more intelligent Trump. He like Trump inherited his wealth and is Too big to fail, due to too much money received from daddy's emerald mines. Another white dude but this one grew up being taught that blacks were to be disparaged. Like Trump was taught his daddy's black housing tenants, the same. Two social losers.
@juddlegum the same people who think still t***p was best president
@juddlegum 🙄Obviously they aren’t paying attention 🤔
@juddlegum
Freedom for he but not for ye.

@juddlegum Perfectly within his rights. TWITTER IS HIS PLAYTHING.

It is nothing else. A very costly dollhouse he can do what he wishes with.

Any journalism organization that stays there is, frankly, too out of touch with reality to be in that business.

@juddlegum If the #MUSKrat cared about free speech, he would not have kicked me off under false pretenses. He is just another arrogant bully like TFG.
@juddlegum Can someone share her Mastodon address? I don't usually read Business Insider but that was 🔥 🔥 🔥
@juddlegum
I don't worry about Elon Musk suspending my Twitter account because I DELETED my account the day he took control of the platform
@juddlegum Recovering “weird nerd who jumps in front of valid criticism of Elon Musk” here. Lopez was enemy #1 of Elon’s war against “FUD” circa 2017, of all the journo-bans, her’s has to be the most transparently vengeful and worrying.
I hope the rest of the media looks closely at this powerful assessment of the real Elon and adjusts their approach accordingly to this toxic, manipulative liar.
@juddlegum Awesome read. Thanks for sharing.

@juddlegum i didn't read the whole article... the first line, and that she chose to highlight it thusly, says it all...

who it's about is beside the point...

schoolyard name calling bears no necessity... it's logically fallacious as it attempts to associate a derogatory label to a person, instead of providing substantiated demonstration of their wrongdoing... it's mental junk food, and there is better nourishment... this merely contributes to the general decline of substantial discourse...

@juddlegum all now to queen Elon
@juddlegum I hope Tesla looses 200 sales for every queen Elon suspensions
@juddlegum Tesla Monday everyone waiting for a Tesla with a soul cancel the order

@juddlegum very good article.
Musk has overly developed the trump playbook using a lot more money and a few more smarts.

This must be the Decade of the Evil Billionaires

@juddlegum a Linette Lopez twitter thread with her Business Insider articles about Musk:

“How do I know so much about how @elonmusk does things? I spent 3 years investigating Tesla at @BusinessInsider from 2018-2021. Here are some of sloppy, dangerous, callous, things I learned:”

Twitter
@juddlegum Now that the Musk distortion field has cleared, the remaining question for me is why Falcon 9 is actually a really good launch vehicle. My working hypotheses are, 1. The ULA oligopoly competition was truly atrocious, having invented nothing since the late 1960s, and 2. the external engineering oversight that came with NASA money forced Musk to turn the company over to adults like Shotwell.

@juddlegum I remember talking about Tesla to a friend who worked in investment maybe 10 years ago. He said their fundamentals were not too impressive, but I told him to not underestimate Tesla, because it's not a business, but a cult. As long as cult members have money to burn and the desire to sink them in their Mission it would be unstoppable.

Well, money is running out, and the cultists are starting to have doubts ...

@juddlegum Frankly I think that Musk's goal is to destroy Twitter. With Twitter gone, it will be far easier for the oligarchs to push their narrative of less government, lower wages, and more pollution. Twitter actually WAS a space where a counter-narrative to the MSM was found. Far less so now. And it will take a while for the Mastedon Fediverse to fill the void.
@juddlegum "One former senior employee told me that the culture shift when Musk took over at Tesla was like when Voldemort's Death Eaters took over the halls of Hogwarts. Do not be surprised if more Twitter employees head for the exits."

@juddlegum

Great article.

SpaceX has done amazing things. All rocket companies have always relied on military and government launches. Because there is a lot of business there.

Look at SLS to see the true pork example.

@juddlegum posted it on Twitter. Let's see how long it stays 🤷
@juddlegum What an excellent and insightful article about Musk’s management style, the impetus behind his previous successes, and how Twitter is different.
