It's the Guns.

America is the only rich democracy that features the routine mass slaughter of its citizens with guns. Why does this happen? The data show a really clear picture: It's the guns. Yes, it's that simple.

[thank you @brianklaas]

@zs @brianklaas yep its that simple πŸ₯Ή its propostrous and sickening #gunskill
@zs @brianklaas I think the 2A absolutists are being used for stochastic terrorism. If their christo-fascist white nationalist party ever came to power it'd be, "oops, sorry..now we have to ban guns"

@zs @brianklaas

Most Swiss men have an automatic rifle and 50 rounds of ammunition at home.

@tolton @zs @brianklaas I think a significant difference is easy access to both hand guns & military grade weapons without cause. The US has massive numbers of responsible gun owners. Being able to access an unnecessary weapon is the problem, not responsible, sensible ownership.

No-liberalism can't do empathy - it hampers the mad rush to market survival...gotta fight your corner for the cake...

...empathy, the invisible enemy, is everywhere, esp. the arts
...stamp it out! close it down!

Defend your corner, get a gun...

@zs @brianklaas i enjoyed this article but found it surprising that there was no mention of militarism. Having a huge standing army they routinely gets trained in killing and sent off to kill people might also have an effect, and it's one that the article didn't examine. Getting and staying out of wars would also have the side effect of, like, not killing people and destroying things in the name if the USA. Better for climate too
@zs @brianklaas I think these numbers include suicides. Which is correct but I think important to call out. The VHA, for example, knows veteran suicide risk is best mitigated by reduced gun access. (Women vets in particular have for more gun access than non-vet women.)

@zs @brianklaas
Yep. Sadly ironic that the gun worshipers are right on one thing.

Laws won't stop this slaughter. It's the free and easy access to guns by absolutely everyone.

@zs @brianklaas All the billions the NRA has made from the killing of our children.
@zs @brianklaas if you have a gun, you are more likely to be shot. Guns make you less safe.

@zs @brianklaas keeps them scared and a scared population is a population that's easy to control. It also feeds the culture war. The war that distracts out attention away from their malfeasance, and focuses our rage on one another.

Like the banker that takes 19 of the 20 cookies on the plate, then tells the guy to be careful because that immigrant is going to take your cookie.

Lucky in somethings but not necessarily in happiness and wellbeing.
