How many other 70s born kids, who grew up poor, recognize this illegal thing I used to do with prerecorded #CassetteTapes ?

I'd did this with free tapes that people tried donating to Salvation Army thrift store - where one of my Uncles worked as a donations sorter for years in 80s-early 90s. They'd put these unwanted tapes w/no cases into bags for disposal. My Uncle got permission to take some of them & give to me to reuse.

Taped songs off the radio. I was a rebel.
@GenX I did that too. Got annoyed when DJ would cut in before songs ended & would have to wait hours before I could try to tape again.
@msquebanh
Yup. I did that all the time! Cover the holes and you can record whatever you want.
@humbird0 Yes! I was giggling at YouTube vids awhile back - giving tutorial on how to do this๐Ÿ˜‚
@msquebanh i did that, but what about it was illegal?
@http There was legal pushback from both recording companies & manufacturers of blank cassette tapes back in the day. Due to corporate concerns about ppl making bootleg & mixed tapes. Despite that, almost every teen I knew was taping off radio, bootlegging albums & making lots of mixed tapes. I remember costs of blank tapes going up around that time.
@msquebanh I'm still doing it now ๐Ÿ™‚
